Heralded as the "White Heron Castle" due to its dazzling white facade and graceful, avian exterior, this UNESCO World Heritage site assures visitors of an engrossing historical tour. With its 83 well-preserved structures, Himeji Castle is the epitome of Japanese castle architecture and a testament to feudal ingenuity with its complex strategic plans and defensive designs. The main keep, untouched by the effects of war and aging, provides stunning views of the surrounding city. The castle's grounds and interiors, with their exquisite wooden carvings and tranquil gardens that change with the seasons, are a showcase of traditional Japanese architecture. Exploring the castle involves a lot of walking including climbing stairs to get to the main tower, so confortable foot-ware are recommended.
